Pediatric Care in Israel: From Newborn to 18

Israel provides a robust two-tier system for children: preventive care (state-run) and clinical treatment (HMO-run).

1. Tipat Halav (Drop of Milk) — Prevention

These are family health centers where you take your baby immediately after birth.

Services: Vaccinations, growth monitoring, hearing/vision screening, and breastfeeding support.

Note: They do not treat illnesses. For a fever or infection, see your HMO pediatrician.

Your primary doctor for medical issues.

If there are delays in speech, motor skills, or social behavior, a child is referred to developmental specialists (Speech therapists, OTs).

Rights: Due to long queues (6-12 months), if your HMO fails to provide an appointment within 3 months, you may be eligible for private reimbursements under 2024 regulations.

Usually diagnosed around age 6 by a neurologist or psychiatrist. Subsidized testing (MOXO/TOVA) is available through all major health funds.
